The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday said 772 out of the 9000 Road Traffic Accidents (RTCs) recorded in 2015 across the country were caused by burst tyres. The FRSC Head of Operations, Mr Adei Abu, disclosed this in Dutse at a road safety stakeholders’ campaign on good use of tyres. “We are here in Jigawa to educate the general public on the expiry dates of tyres. This is because we believe that when we educate them, they will pay more attention and do the right thing. “You see, out of the 9,000 RTCs recorded in the previous year across the country, 772 of them were caused by burst tyres,’’ Abu said. Abu said the FRSC had observed that the recent increase in accidents country-wide was as a result of a similar issue. He explained that the commission had, therefore, seen the need to educate all stakeholders so as to check the menace. The FRSC official said the the campaign was attended by tyre dealers, vehicle owners, drivers, vulcanisers and other stakeholders.
